What is a B Corp

The business meeting verified standards.

Certified B Corporations™ (B Corps™) are for-profit companies that use the power of business to build a more inclusive, equitable and regenerative economy.

The definition

Verified performance. Legal accountability. Public transparency.

B Corps meet high standards of social and environmental performance through the rigorous, holistic B Impact™ framework. Under the new B Lab™ Standards every certification decision is issued by an independent assurance provider approved by B Lab™, and companies must meet requirements across seven Impact Topics — from Purpose & Stakeholder Governance to Climate Action.

Verified performance

Independently assessed against the B Lab™ Standards by a B Lab™-approved assurance provider — covering everything from fair wages and climate action to human rights in the value chain.

Legal accountability

B Corps embed their commitment to all stakeholders into their governing documents, protecting the company’s mission for the long term.

Public transparency

Every B Corp’s certification scope and performance is published on the public B Corp Directory, so anyone can see what stands behind the logo.

Why B Corp

The benefits extend far beyond the certificate.

Join a global community

Work alongside companies held to the same standards — through coalitions, collaborations and business partnerships that a certificate alone would never open up.

Attract talent, engage employees

Unleash the passion, initiative and imagination of your people by connecting them with a larger meaning behind their work.

Build credibility and trust

Third-party verification and high transparency help customers understand the integrity of your business — and protect you from greenwashing claims.

Improve, year after year

The new standards set a clear path — meet the Year 0 requirements to certify, then build towards the Year 3 and Year 5 milestones, with progress checked independently along the way.

Protect your mission

Elevate your social and environmental values to the status of law, obligating the board to consider stakeholders as well as shareholders.

Future-proof your brand

Certifying against a globally recognised framework sets your company up for tightening sustainability regulations and rising stakeholder expectations.

Profit & purpose

It’s about how the business is run — not what it sells.

B Corp Certification is sector-agnostic. What counts is the way the whole company is run — how the team is treated, how decisions are made, how the business uses energy and engages its community. Leaders of B Corps commit to verified standards, and are willing to be measured on them.

Companies need at least 12 months of trading history before they can certify. Younger companies can still start today with the free B Impact™ assessment and build the evidence they will need.
