Become a Certified B Corporation.
B Lab™’s standards are at the heart of the B Corp movement. All new certifications now run on the new B Lab™ Standards (V2) — clear, mandatory requirements tailored to your company’s size, sector, industry and location.
From a points score to clear requirements.
The new standards — first released in 2025 and now in force as the new B Lab™ Standards (V2) — are the biggest evolution of B Corp Certification in the movement’s 20-year history. Submissions on the legacy V1.6 standards closed on 28 February 2026; existing B Corps transition when they recertify.
The legacy model
- Score 80+ points of 200 on the B Impact Assessment
- Flexibility to score well in some areas and lower in others
- Desk-based review by B Lab™’s internal analysts
- Recertification every 3 years
The new standards
- Meet Foundation Requirements plus mandatory sub-requirements across all seven Impact Topics
- Requirements tailored to company size, sector, industry and location
- Third-party audits by independent assurance providers
- Certification cycle is 5 years, with phased sub-requirements for continuous improvement, audited at Year 0, 3 and 5
Foundation Requirements.
Before tackling the Impact Topics, every company completes the Foundation Requirements — the formal entry gate to certification.
Eligibility
Confirm your company can certify — including at least 12 months of operations. Younger companies can start with the free B Impact™ assessment in the meantime.
Legal accountability
Adopt the B Corp legal commitment, embedding stakeholder governance in your company’s governing documents.
Risk profile
A review of your industry and operations determines your company’s risk profile and any additional due-diligence requirements.
Seven Impact Topics, one bar for leadership.
Companies measure, manage and improve their impact across all seven topics — no cherry-picking, no offsetting a weak area with a strong one.
01Purpose & Stakeholder Governance
Act in accordance with a defined purpose and embed stakeholder governance into decision-making, contributing to an inclusive, equitable and regenerative economy.
02Fair Work
Provide quality jobs, foster positive workplace cultures, and ensure fair treatment, engagement and wellbeing for workers.
03Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion
Foster inclusive and diverse workplaces and contribute to more just and equitable communities through policies, culture and practice.
04Human Rights
Treat people with dignity and respect human rights across operations and value chains, ensuring responsible business practices.
05Climate Action
Take meaningful action to address the climate crisis, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen resilience.
06Environmental Stewardship & Circularity
Minimise negative impacts, protect ecosystems and contribute to a more circular and regenerative economy.
07Government Affairs & Collective Action
Take a leadership role in advancing policies, partnerships and collective solutions that foster an equitable, inclusive and regenerative economy.
Tailored to you
The exact sub-requirements depend on your company’s size, sector, industry and geography — assessed on the B Impact™ platform.

Certification is a journey, not a finish line.
B Corp Certification is valid for five years, with ongoing audits throughout the cycle. Companies progressively raise the bar:
Meet the initial set of mandatory sub-requirements across the Foundation Requirements and all seven Impact Topics to certify.
Demonstrate progress by meeting additional Year-3 sub-requirements, verified through ongoing audits.
Reach the full Year-5 requirements and recertify — continuously deepening your company’s impact over time.
Ten steps from sign-up to certification.
Register the company on B Impact™
To start, the company registers on B Impact™ by providing its initial details — a free, confidential account and B Lab™’s impact management tool, offered as a public good. Already have one? Sign in to your existing B Impact account.
Assess eligibility, scope and track for certification
The company assesses itself against the B Lab™ Standards Foundation Requirements through the Certification Setup process; B Lab™ reviews this to confirm eligibility, then defines the certification scope and track. Scoping is a critical step that sets the boundaries of the assessment, certification and logo use on brands — especially important for companies with related entities, subsidiaries, parent companies or shared brands.
Further eligibility check, including risk profile and legal requirement
The company works through the Foundation Requirements in full — completing a risk profile by answering key questions and adopting the legal accountability commitment.
Complete the self-assessment
A self-assessment is generated in B Impact based on the company’s track and risk profile. The company completes it in full, uploading evidence for the Impact Topic requirements.
Submit for certification and sign the B Lab™ Agreement
The company accepts the self-assessment summary, signs the B Lab™ Agreement and pays the submission fee. B Lab™ then assigns an independent assurance provider.
Schedule and go through the audit
The assigned assurance provider arranges a contract with the company and schedules the third-party audit, which includes a review of the company’s self-assessment and corresponding evidence. Audits may be onsite or remote, depending on the company’s certification track.
Receive the audit report
Within about 30 days of the closing meeting, the company receives the Corrective Action Report and Audit Report, documenting conformity and any nonconformities classified as major or minor.
Address nonconformities
The company develops and submits a Corrective Action Plan to the assurance provider, detailing how it will address nonconformities, along with evidence to resolve any major nonconformities within the timelines set out in the Corrective Action Report.
Certification decision & B Lab™ License Agreement
The assurance provider makes the certification decision — positive only once any major nonconformities are closed within the assigned timeline — and issues a certificate valid for up to five years. The company signs the B Lab™ License Agreement to use the B Corp logo, and B Lab™ publishes its profile on the public B Corp Directory.
Ongoing audits & recertification
Certified companies undergo Year 3, surveillance and recertification audits to maintain their certification and license, at a frequency set by the company’s track. The Year 5 audit is the recertification that renews certification for the next cycle.
